Our first co-organised CX race is under our belt following round 10 of the NWCCA CX league races today at Stadt Moers, and what an amazing demonstration of our fantastic club team spirit it was!
Our members turned out en-force today to help set up the course, marshal, help at sign-on, lap count, clear the course and numerous other jobs. Some were on site from just after 8am to 4.30pm today! A huge thank you to everyone who lent a hand. You made the event a great success and we couldn’t do these things without you.
The venue is a fantastic one, with a brilliant course, and the weather was ideal, with the sun shining and not as cold as it has been. Highlights of the day included our youth riders compering for the children’s races, providing great support to the racers, and our improvised (but hugely successful) final lap bell app! NWCCA have even tweeted about our bell!
Not only was the overall event a success, but our racers also did us proud:
Our junior club members were amazing. We had 18 junior members competing, including John and Frank White, Matthew Johnson and Freddie Jones in their first CX races.
Helen Osguthorpe was the sole junior lady representative – well done Helen!
Mel finished 3rd U16 girl and Hannah was 2nd U12 girl. Absolutely amazing! Women racers of the present and future.
Lachlan finished 6th U14 boy.
We had some great results in the U12 boys race too, with Seb Grindley finishing highest U12 NCCJ boy in 7th, but closely followed by Raph in 9th, Ethan in 10th and Owen in 11th.
Our adult racing team was depleted by so many of our racers stepping up to support the club and volunteering to help, but we still had 8 racers, with some great results.
Dave Grindley finished 11th Vet overall, and 2nd V40.
In the seniors Paul Wilkinson finished 16th, despite very much feeling under the weather, and Stephen Burns completed the race in 20th place.
Full steam ahead for next year when NCC will be sole race organisers. Bring it on!
