North Cheshire Clarion organised the MERE Audax rides on 25th February 2018.
There were two distances; 160km and 200km verified to Audax UK standards.
The day started with hot drinks, toast and porridge at the village hall before the 200km riders set out at 8am on a very crisp but dry and sunny morning, soon to be followed by the 160km riders at 8:30. The route was followed by either GPS device or route sheets and both routes included at least two café stops, along with a couple of information controls to ensure that the distance had been covered. A minimum and maximum speed is set for the ride, this gave the volunteers enough time to get out for their own shorter ride before those out on the course got back. A warm welcome of beans on toast, soup, rolls and cakes awaited their arrival. We had 90 entries and 50 starters for the 160km route and 129 entries and 73 starters for the 200km route. We also collected money for the brain injury charity Headway on the day which amounted to £176, which the club then matched to give a total of £352! This was also in memory of Terry Brown who died riding 4 years ago following an RTA.
